Choosing the right knob depends primarily on the type of component it will be fitted to and your personal ergonomic preferences. Here are some practical guidelines:

For standard rotary encoders (e.g. ELMA E33, Bourns PEC11H) – No.1, No.2 or No.3 work well, depending on your preferred height and grip shape.
For ALPS Funky Switch (ALPS RKJXT1F42001) – use the dedicated ALPS knob, which is machined to match the specific shaft shape of this switch.
For the Simagic GT NEO steering wheel – the dedicated GT NEO aluminium knobs are ready-fit replacements that improve both the aesthetics and grip of an existing wheel without any full build required.

Hall sensor clutches vs mechanical clutches – what's the difference?

Traditional mechanical clutches rely on a potentiometer or physical contacts that wear out over time. The aluminium clutches with Hall sensor work without any physical contact — a magnet moves relative to a magnetic sensor, generating an analogue signal with zero friction. The result is a linear, repeatable response and virtually unlimited durability, making them the natural choice for sim racing applications.
