Electronic DIY Parts – components for building your own sim racing steering wheel
The Electronic subcategory is the heart of any sim racing DIY project. Here you'll find all the electronic components needed to build a custom control panel — from precision encoders and professional funky switches, to USB controllers that read every input, spiral coil cables and a miniature dashboard display. Products are grouped by function:
Rotary encoders
Encoders are the core input elements of any DIY steering wheel, used for adjusting engine maps, brake bias, balance or DRS. Simline carries the three most popular models used in sim racing wheel builds:
- ELMA E33 – a premium Swiss industrial-grade encoder, prized for excellent click precision and longevity
- Bourns PEC11H – a popular encoder with a built-in push button, ideal for applications requiring push-to-click functionality
- CTS 288T232R161A2 – a CTS encoder with 16 positions, a reliable choice for rotary switches
Funky Switch – ALPS multi-function switches
A Funky Switch is a 5-axis multi-function switch (4 directions + push) — an essential component of any modern racing steering wheel. Simline's range includes:
- ALPS RKJXT1F42001 – the bare switch for integration with a custom PCB
- 7-in-1 Multiswitch ALPS Funky Switch – a complete kit with aluminium knob and module for easier assembly
- Dual Funky Switch Module – a double-switch layout with two funky switches in a single module for maximum functionality
USB controllers – the brain of the wheel
A USB controller reads signals from all buttons, encoders and switches and sends them to the computer as an HID device. Simline offers several variants for different needs:
- Simline X36 Ultimate – Simline's own controller with 36 inputs, designed specifically around the requirements of sim racing steering wheels
- BU0836A NC 12-bit – the classic Leo Bodnar controller, a long-standing standard in the DIY community with extensive documentation and tutorials available online
- Simline BU0836A Break Out Matrix Board – an expansion board for the BU0836A that increases the number of supported buttons via a matrix
- MicroBBI Controller – a compact controller for smaller DIY projects
- DSD BLU32 BLE Controller – a Bluetooth wireless controller, ideal for cable-free steering wheel builds
Rotary switches, buttons and modules
- BBI 12-position rotary switch – classic 12-position mode selector switch
- Electroswitch TS127SZQ2 – precision rotary switch for advanced applications
- Momentary push button – standard momentary button for mounting in the wheel housing
- Knitter Push Button MPS103F – high-quality miniature push button
- Dual Clutch Module with BPP – a ready-made module with dual clutch and Bite Point Presets functionality
Spiral coil cables and display
- Simline spiral coil cable USB-A – coiled cable to connect the steering wheel to the base via USB
- Spiral coil cable Micro USB – variant terminated with a micro USB connector
- VoCore Screen – a miniature display for embedding in the steering wheel, showing telemetry data, gear position or engine parameters
