Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra – 28 Nm Direct Drive wheelbase for serious sim racing

Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra is the strongest wheelbase in the Alpha EVO family, built for drivers who want a large torque reserve, clean force feedback and stable performance during long sessions. With 28 Nm of peak torque, the base does not have to run close to its limit to deliver heavy kerb strikes, steering load, tyre detail and sudden changes in grip.

This is not a wheelbase for a light desk setup. Alpha EVO Ultra makes the most sense in a rigid cockpit, where the frame, seat and pedal tray can handle strong Direct Drive forces without flexing. In that environment, the driver can feel both the big impacts and the small signals that help control the car near the limit.

The appeal of Alpha EVO Ultra is not only the torque number. The low-inertia servo motor, 21-bit encoder, Zero-Cogging technology, DFDF force-feedback algorithm, Hyper Cool active cooling and CNC-machined aluminium housing all work together to make the steering feel strong, fast and readable.

28 Nm torque with real headroom

The biggest reason to choose Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra is headroom. A 28 Nm wheelbase does not need to be used at full strength all the time. In many cars, the best result comes from setting the force to a level that is comfortable for the driver while still leaving enough room for peak forces.

That headroom helps reduce clipping. When the car hits a kerb, loads the front tyres heavily or reacts to a sharp slide, the base still has enough reserve to show the difference between a strong force and a maximum force.

This matters during endurance racing. The driver can lower the overall strength to survive a long stint, but still feel tyre load, weight transfer, surface changes and the first signs of understeer or oversteer.

Direct Drive response with low-inertia control

Alpha EVO Ultra uses Direct Drive technology, so the steering wheel is connected directly to the motor shaft. There are no belts, pulleys or gears between the motor and the driver’s hands.

The low-inertia motor design helps the wheel react quickly. A heavy motor can feel strong but slow. Alpha EVO Ultra is designed to give high torque without making the steering feel lazy or delayed.

That difference is easy to notice in fast cars. A GT3 car, prototype or Formula-style car can change direction quickly, and the wheelbase has to keep up with those small but important corrections.

Zero-Cogging for smoother force feedback

Zero-Cogging technology is used to reduce the mechanical stepping effect that can make some motors feel uneven around the centre. The goal is a smoother steering movement, especially during small corrections.

In practice, the wheel should feel less artificial when the car is loaded through a long corner or when the driver is making small adjustments on corner exit.

A strong base is not useful if it only feels heavy. Alpha EVO Ultra is made to keep the force feedback detailed, so the driver can separate tyre slip, kerb texture, suspension movement and road surface changes.

21-bit encoder for precise steering input

The 21-bit encoder gives the base a very fine reading of steering position. This helps the system detect small wheel movements and send accurate input to the simulator.

Precision matters most when the driver is not making large movements. In circuit racing, many corrections are small: opening the steering on corner exit, catching a slight rear slide or holding the front tyres just before they wash wide.

With a precise encoder and a strong Direct Drive motor, Alpha EVO Ultra can feel calm in slow sections and still react instantly when the car suddenly needs correction.

DFDF algorithm and detailed steering texture

The DFDF algorithm processes force feedback so the base can respond quickly to changing loads. This is important when several signals arrive at once: kerbs, tyre slip, bumps, car rotation and steering correction.

A weaker or less refined setup can merge those signals into one heavy movement. Alpha EVO Ultra is designed to keep more texture in the feedback, so the driver can understand what caused the car to move.

This makes the base useful not only for hotlapping, but also for learning. The driver can feel whether the mistake came from braking too late, entering the corner too aggressively or applying throttle before the rear tyres were ready.

Hyper Cool for long sessions

Hyper Cool is the active cooling system used in the Alpha EVO Ultra. It helps the motor and electronics keep a stable operating temperature during demanding sessions.

Temperature stability matters in long races. If a wheelbase reduces torque because of heat, the same car can start to feel different after several laps. That makes the driver less consistent.

Alpha EVO Ultra is built for repeated use under load. It suits endurance practice, league racing, long test sessions and shared cockpits where the base may run for many hours.

CNC-machined aluminium housing

The housing is made from die-cast aluminium and CNC-machined for rigidity. At this torque level, the body of the base and the way it is mounted are both important.

If the cockpit flexes, some of the force feedback disappears into the rig instead of reaching the driver’s hands. That is why Alpha EVO Ultra should be mounted to a solid aluminium-profile cockpit or another strong frame.

A rigid wheelbase and a rigid cockpit make the feedback cleaner. The driver is not fighting movement in the stand; they are reading what the simulated car is doing.

Mounting the Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra

Alpha EVO Ultra can be mounted from the bottom, side or front, depending on the cockpit and the bracket used. This makes it easier to fit into different sim racing rigs.

Before choosing this base, it is worth checking the space around the wheel deck. The Ultra model is larger and heavier than weaker bases, so cable routing and cockpit position should be planned before installation.

A strong base also needs a strong seating position. If the seat, pedals or wheel deck move under force, the driver will lose some of the precision that the base can provide.

Simagic wheel compatibility

Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra works best as the centre of a complete Simagic ecosystem. It can be paired with different steering wheels depending on the type of racing.

For Formula cars and prototypes, a compact, control-heavy wheel makes sense. For GT and endurance racing, a wheel with more buttons, encoders and telemetry lighting can be more practical. For rally and drift, a full round rim is usually the better choice.

Popular matching options include Simagic ZEUS Formula, Simagic ZEUS GT and Simagic ZEUS Sport. The full steering wheel category is available here: Simagic wheels.

Ports, CAN, CAN FD and USB

Alpha EVO Ultra offers a wide connection layout, including CAN, CAN FD and USB support. This helps the base work with a broader range of Simagic devices and selected external configurations.

The 11 connection ports make the wheelbase useful as the centre of a larger cockpit. Pedals, shifters, handbrakes and other accessories can be integrated more cleanly, depending on the chosen setup.

For a matching system, the base can be paired with Simagic pedals and Simagic shifters and handbrakes.

SimPro Manager V3 configuration

SimPro Manager V3 is used for base configuration, firmware updates and force-feedback profiles. With a powerful wheelbase like Alpha EVO Ultra, settings matter more than simply choosing the highest possible strength.

A GT3 profile can be set up for longer stints, with enough force to show tyre load but not so much that the driver gets tired after a few laps. A prototype or Formula profile can use faster response and a sharper feel.

Different simulators also need different tuning. iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, rFactor 2 and Le Mans Ultimate do not all send force feedback in the same way, so separate profiles are worth preparing.

SimHub and telemetry-based cockpit setups

In selected configurations, Alpha EVO Ultra can also be part of a cockpit using dashboards, LEDs and telemetry tools. This is useful when the rig includes external displays or other devices outside the standard wheelbase setup.

SimHub can connect game telemetry with dashboards, LEDs and other cockpit elements. More information about the platform is available on the official SimHub website.

This makes it easier to build a cockpit that is still clean and organised, even when it includes more than just a wheelbase, wheel and pedals.

Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra vs other Alpha EVO bases

The Alpha EVO family includes several bases with different torque levels. Simagic Alpha EVO Sport is the lighter option for less demanding rigs. Simagic Alpha EVO gives more strength for regular sim racing, while Simagic Alpha EVO Pro is aimed at more advanced drivers.

Alpha EVO Ultra is the version for users who want the biggest torque reserve in this line. Not everyone needs 28 Nm, but in a rigid cockpit that extra headroom can make the force feedback feel more open and less compressed.

For a setup that will grow over time, Ultra can be a long-term base. Steering wheels, pedals and cockpit parts may change later, but the wheelbase still has enough power for future upgrades.

Who is the Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra for?

Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra is a good choice for drivers who already have, or plan to build, a strong cockpit. It suits league racers, endurance teams, esports practice, advanced hotlapping and users who want a wheelbase they are unlikely to outgrow quickly.

It is also a good fit for drivers who like strong force feedback but do not want to lose detail. The base can deliver heavy steering when needed, but its main value is the combination of strength, speed and fine feedback.

For a light stand or weak cockpit, a lower-torque base may be more sensible. Ultra becomes most impressive when the rest of the rig is ready for it.

Safety with a 28 Nm wheelbase

A 28 Nm Direct Drive base should be treated with respect. Incorrect force-feedback settings can make the wheel physically demanding, especially during crashes, sudden impacts or badly configured profiles.

The external kill switch allows the driver to stop the base quickly in an emergency. It should be mounted within easy reach from the driving position.

The best approach is to start with lower force and raise it gradually. This helps find the right balance between realism, comfort and control.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What does Ultra-Low Inertia technology mean on the Simagic Alpha Evo Ultra?

Ultra-Low Inertia refers to the motor rotor's innovative design — a reduced radius dramatically cuts rotational inertia, while an elongated rotor maintains the full 28 Nm output. The result is a wheelbase that responds instantly to every steering input without sacrificing force, delivering ultra-precise, immediate feedback that is simply unachievable with traditional high-inertia motors.

What is Zero-Cogging and why does it matter for force feedback?

Cogging is mechanical torque ripple typical in BLDC motors — felt as vibration or a "detent" sensation in the driver's hands. The Alpha Evo Ultra's 5-pole servo motor uses Zero-Cogging technology to completely eliminate this effect. The result is perfectly smooth, clean force feedback with no mechanical artefacts — the driver feels only track information, not motor imperfections.

What does the DFDF algorithm do and how does it affect the driving experience?

The Dynamic Force Domain Filter (DFDF) is a next-generation algorithm that processes FFB signals at 20 kHz with 180 MHz response speed. It dynamically reconstructs the force feedback curve in microseconds — preserving subtle surface texture, kerb detail and tyre slip even during rapid load changes. In practice, every asphalt texture and every grip limit is felt with unprecedented precision, faithfully reproduced in the driver's hands.

How does Hyper Cool work and does the base lose power during long sessions?

Hyper Cool is a proprietary active cooling system using vacuum potting — an industrial servo technique where motor windings are impregnated with resin under vacuum, directly conducting heat away from the components that generate it most intensively. As a result, the Alpha Evo Ultra maintains full 28 Nm output throughout the entire session with zero thermal throttling, even during multi-hour endurance races.

What does the built-in 11-port CAN/CAN FD/USB extender provide?

The built-in 11-port extender allows multiple devices to connect directly to the base simultaneously — steering wheels, shifters, handbrakes, pedals and displays — without a separate USB hub. CAN FD ports support the new generation of Simagic peripherals with higher bandwidth and lower latency, while USB ports ensure third-party device compatibility including the QR-A adapter.

Is the Simagic Alpha Evo Ultra compatible with third-party steering wheels?

Yes. The Alpha Evo Ultra supports three wheel types: new-generation Simagic wheels via CAN FD, legacy Simagic wheels via 2.4G wireless power, and third-party steering wheels via the optional QR-A adapter (USB). The open ecosystem also includes full SimHub support and third-party filter compatibility, enabling seamless integration with any existing sim racing setup.

How does the patented Slip Ring technology work?

Slip Ring technology transmits power and data to the steering wheel wirelessly through the motor shaft — eliminating the clock spring coil cable that is traditionally responsible for play, signal delay and mechanical failure over time. Simagic's patented solution provides a stable, lossless connection with minimal passive resistance and a long maintenance-free service life.
