Simagic NEO X-330R – classic 330 mm round wheel with modern controls
Simagic NEO X-330R brings together a traditional round rim and the more advanced control layout of the NEO X hub. Its 330 mm diameter works across a broad range of cars, from classics and road vehicles to rally, off-road, touring and selected GT machinery.
The rim is built around a one-piece CNC-machined aluminium frame. Its leather finish is paired with a red centre marker and red semi-hand stitching, giving the wheel a more classic appearance than the other NEO X variants.
Unlike open or flat-bottomed designs, the 330R keeps the same shape around its full circumference. The driver can let the wheel move through the hands during a rally correction or a fast countersteer without meeting a gap or flattened section.
This is a complete steering wheel rather than a hub-only product. Two adjustable UP+ shift-paddle modules and the Simagic QR50 Quick Release are supplied as standard, so the essential parts required for use with a compatible Simagic wheelbase are already included.

A full round 330 mm rim
A round wheel remains predictable regardless of its position. During a fast correction, there is no flat lower section or open area that can arrive under the driver’s hand at the wrong moment.
This makes the NEO X-330R particularly useful in rally cars, off-road vehicles and road cars with larger steering ranges. In these applications, the hands often move around the rim rather than remaining fixed at nine and three o’clock.
The 330 mm size is large enough to provide natural leverage without becoming cumbersome inside the cockpit. It sits between compact 300 or 310 mm GT wheels and larger 350 mm rims developed mainly for drifting.
Because of that middle-ground size, the 330R can also be used comfortably in touring cars, older race cars and many GT models. It does not force the driver into one narrow type of simulation.
Smoother steering inputs
A larger rim changes the way Direct Drive forces reach the hands. The longer leverage can make a powerful wheelbase easier to manage, particularly over a long stint or on a rough surface.
Steering corrections also tend to feel more progressive than they do on a smaller Formula-style wheel. The driver has slightly more movement available when placing the front wheels or catching a slide.
This can be useful on gravel, uneven off-road sections and older cars with slower steering ratios. The wheel still reacts quickly enough for circuit use, but it does not encourage the very short, nervous inputs associated with compact rims.
One-piece CNC-machined aluminium frame
The structure beneath the leather covering is machined from aluminium as a single piece. It carries the load between the grips, the NEO X hub and the Quick Release.
Using one main frame helps reduce unwanted flex when the wheelbase produces stronger forces. The rim, hub and mounting point remain connected through a rigid structure rather than several thin pieces joined together.
Rigidity matters even when the wheelbase is not being used at maximum torque. A stable rim allows smaller road details and the beginning of a slide to reach the hands without being softened by movement in the wheel itself.
Aluminium also keeps the construction lighter than a comparable heavy steel frame. Lower rotating mass helps preserve the response of the Direct Drive system during quick direction changes.
Leather finish with a red centre marker
The NEO X-330R uses a leather finish designed for regular use with or without gloves. Its surface is easier to maintain than suede-style materials and does not require the same level of care after every session.
A soft, slightly damp cloth is normally enough for routine cleaning. Strong cleaning agents and excessive moisture should be avoided, as they can affect the surface over time.
The leather gives the wheel a more traditional character, which suits classic race cars and road vehicles particularly well. At the same time, the modern NEO X control hub keeps the wheel practical in newer cars with more electronic adjustments.
Red semi-hand stitching
The red stitching and centre marker separate the 330R visually from the orange-accented 330T. The semi-hand-finished seam gives the rim a less uniform, more traditional appearance than a simple machine-stitched covering.
The red marker also provides a clear reference for the centre position of the wheel. This is useful after a rally correction or when the wheel returns quickly towards the straight-ahead position.
In a darker cockpit, the contrast between the red details and black leather makes the rim’s position easier to pick up in peripheral vision.
NEO X hub with a carbon-fibre reinforced structure
The centre of the wheel uses the modular NEO X hub. Its housing is made from carbon-fibre reinforced composite, which keeps the area around the controls and rim mounting points rigid without relying on a heavy metal enclosure.
Buttons, encoders, switches and LEDs are distributed across both sides of the panel. The centre remains relatively clear, so the wheel does not feel visually crowded despite the number of available inputs.
Each control type has a different shape and position. The main buttons, large encoders, thumb dials and multi-position switches can be distinguished by touch after a few sessions.
Eight programmable RGB buttons
The eight main buttons can be assigned to the functions used most often during driving. In a rally car, they may operate the wipers, lights, reset function or communication. In a GT car, they can handle the pit limiter, radio, ignition or dashboard pages.
RGB lighting makes it possible to divide the controls into colour groups. Service functions can use one colour, lighting another and communication a third.
Once the layout becomes familiar, colour and position are often faster to recognise than the small printed symbol on a button label.
Defined button movement
The buttons use a short travel with a noticeable activation point. Commands register quickly, but the control still requires a deliberate press.
This helps reduce accidental inputs when the hands are moving quickly around the full round rim. A set of labels is included, allowing the panel to be matched to a particular simulator or car.
Four rotary encoders for vehicle settings
Two illuminated 12-position encoders
The larger front-mounted encoders provide 12 selectable positions. They suit functions where the driver wants to choose a specific level rather than simply increase or decrease a value without a clear reference.
Depending on the car, they may control traction control, ABS, differential settings, engine maps or energy recovery.
The integrated lighting provides another visual reference when the setting changes. The exact behaviour depends on the simulator and the selected software profile.
Two thumb encoders
Two smaller encoders are positioned near the outer edges of the hub. They can be adjusted with the thumbs while the hands remain on the rim.
This placement is useful for settings that may change several times during a lap. Brake balance, traction control or another value can be corrected before the next corner without reaching towards the middle of the wheel.
Because the 330 mm rim places the hands slightly farther from the centre than a compact Formula wheel, the outer position of the thumb encoders is especially useful on this model.
Two seven-way multi-position switches
Each multi-position switch combines directional movement, rotation and a push action. One physical control can therefore replace several conventional buttons.
They work well for navigating black boxes, dashboard pages, vehicle settings and race-strategy menus.
One switch can be used for race information, while the other handles car configuration or interface controls. This leaves the eight RGB buttons free for commands that require an immediate response.
Nine programmable RGB LEDs
A strip of nine RGB LEDs sits across the upper section of the hub. Its most common role is displaying rising engine speed and the preferred shift point.
The LEDs can also show other supported telemetry events, depending on the game, profile and connection method.
The light strip remains visible inside the round 330R rim. Colour changes can be noticed in peripheral vision, so a separate shift-light module above the wheelbase may not be necessary.
Two adjustable UP+ paddle modules
The standard package includes two UP+ shift-paddle modules. The left paddle is usually assigned to downshifts and the right to upshifts.
Their position can be adjusted to suit the 330 mm rim and the driver’s hand size. This matters because the fingers sit farther from the centre than they would on a smaller 280 or 300 mm steering wheel.
The paddles suit GT cars, touring machinery, rally cars with sequential transmissions and many modern road vehicles.
When a separate H-pattern shifter is used, the paddles can remain available for other supported functions or serve as an alternative shifting method.
Compatibility with Simagic wheelbases
Simagic NEO X-330R includes the QR50 Quick Release and works with wheelbases from the Alpha and Alpha EVO families:
- Simagic Alpha Mini
- Simagic Alpha
- Simagic Alpha U
- Simagic Alpha EVO Sport
- Simagic Alpha EVO
- Simagic Alpha EVO Pro
- Simagic Alpha EVO Ultra
The QR50 allows the wheel to be removed without undoing mounting screws. A compact Formula wheel can be installed for open-wheel racing, and the NEO X-330R can be fitted again for rally, classic, road or touring cars.
Before the first session, it is worth checking for updates in SimPro Manager. Current firmware helps ensure that the buttons, encoders, LEDs and paddle modules are detected correctly.
2.4 GHz wireless communication
When used with a compatible Simagic wheelbase, steering-wheel data can be transmitted wirelessly. A USB cable does not need to run from the rotating wheel to the computer.
Pairing and device settings are handled through the Simagic software environment. The initial setup may differ slightly depending on the wheelbase and installed firmware version.
Use with third-party wheelbases
The NEO X-330R can also work with selected wheelbases from other manufacturers through Simagic MagLink.
MagLink creates a wired data connection between the NEO X hub and the computer. Button, encoder, paddle and lighting data no longer need to pass through the electronics of a Simagic wheelbase.
The cable does not provide mechanical mounting by itself. Depending on the wheelbase, a compatible adapter, mounting plate or wheel-side Quick Release may still be required.
A mixed-brand setup should therefore be checked in three separate areas: mechanical mounting, power supply and data communication.
Pedals for an NEO X-330R setup
The wheel can be used with pedals from any manufacturer. Simagic pedal sets are still a convenient option for drivers who prefer to keep the main controls within one ecosystem.
- Simagic P500 – an accessible Load Cell set for drivers moving beyond basic pedals
- Simagic P700 – adjustable Load Cell pedals with room for later expansion
- Simagic P1000 – a modular pedal platform supporting hydraulic and haptic accessories
- Simagic P2000 – a hydraulic pedal set intended for more advanced cockpits
Comparison with other NEO X steering wheels
Every complete NEO X wheel uses a similar control layout, but the rim shape and finish change how each model feels in use.
- Simagic NEO X-310G – a compact D-shaped wheel aimed mainly at GT and circuit racing
- Simagic NEO X-330T – a round 330 mm wheel with black synthetic leather and orange stitching
- Simagic NEO X-350W – a larger 350 mm rim developed mainly for drifting
NEO X-330R and NEO X-310G
The 310G uses a smaller rim with a flat lower section. It reacts quickly to short inputs and suits GT cars where both hands stay in one position for most of the lap.
The NEO X-330R gives the hands more room to move. Its round shape feels more natural in rally, classics, road cars and off-road driving.
NEO X-330R and NEO X-330T
Both versions use a full 330 mm rim, so their basic steering leverage and hand position are similar.
The main difference is the finish. The 330T uses black synthetic leather with orange stitching, while the 330R has a leather finish with a red centre marker and red semi-hand stitching.
The 330R has the more traditional appearance, while the 330T follows the brighter orange detailing used elsewhere in the Simagic range.
NEO X-330R and NEO X-350W
The NEO X-350W is larger and more focused on drifting. Its 350 mm diameter provides additional leverage during broad countersteering movements, but it also takes up more space and reacts more slowly to small inputs.
The NEO X-330R remains the more flexible option. It still allows the wheel to pass freely through the hands while fitting classics, touring cars, rally vehicles and road cars more naturally.
Typical use of the Simagic NEO X-330R
The wheel suits a cockpit where the car and driving surface change regularly. Its full rim can be used with an asphalt classic, a gravel rally car, an off-road vehicle or a modern road-going sports car.
The 330 mm diameter gives the hands a familiar position without making the wheel unnecessarily large. At the same time, the NEO X hub provides far more control options than a basic round rim with only a few buttons.
A smaller open wheel may be better for dedicated Formula racing, while a 350 mm rim may suit drifting alone. The NEO X-330R sits between those extremes and works well in a varied sim racing setup.
