Simagic GT NEO – lightweight 300 mm wheel for GT and endurance racing

Simagic GT NEO is a compact 300 mm wheel developed for modern GT cars, prototypes and endurance racing. Its shape keeps both hands in a stable position, while the wide grip spacing feels less cramped than a small Formula wheel. This makes it well suited to long stints as well as short races where quick steering corrections matter.

The main structure is made from an injection-moulded composite reinforced with carbon fibre. This keeps the wheel relatively light without giving it a soft or flexible feel when the Direct Drive base begins to work harder. Excluding the Quick Release, the GT NEO weighs around 1.1 kg.

The front panel contains enough controls for a modern race car, but the layout remains easy to learn. Buttons, encoders and switches sit close to the grips, so most adjustments can be made without changing hand position or looking away from the track.

Main features of the Simagic GT NEO

  • 300 mm GT and Formula-style design suited to circuit and endurance racing
  • Carbon-fibre reinforced composite construction with a low overall weight
  • 10 programmable RGB buttons with replaceable button labels
  • 4 main rotary encoders for frequently changed car settings
  • 2 thumb encoders positioned close to the grips
  • 2 seven-way multi-position switches for menus and additional controls
  • 15-LED rev and status strip with configurable lighting
  • 4 Hall-effect paddle modules mounted behind the wheel
  • Simagic QR50 Quick Release included with the wheel
  • Configuration through SimPro Manager
  • Third-party wheelbase and SimHub support through Simagic MagLink

A 300 mm format that works well over longer races

The GT NEO sits between a narrow Formula wheel and a larger round rim. At 300 mm, it remains quick through direction changes but gives the hands more space than many 280 or 290 mm designs.

This balance works particularly well in GT3, GT4, LMP and Hypercar machinery. These cars normally use a steering range where the driver keeps both hands near the same position throughout the lap. The open upper and lower sections do not become a limitation because the wheel rarely needs to rotate freely through the hands.

The wider grip position also reduces the feeling of having the arms pulled too close together. During a longer endurance stint, that can make the shoulders and wrists feel more relaxed than they would on a smaller Formula-style wheel.

Shaped grips for a stable hand position

The grips have clearly defined areas for the palms, fingers and thumbs. Hands settle into place naturally without needing to squeeze the wheel constantly, even when Force Feedback becomes heavier through a fast corner.

The control layout follows the same approach. Thumb encoders and switches remain reachable without releasing the grips, while the larger rotary controls sit far enough apart to avoid turning the wrong one by accident.

Carbon-fibre composite instead of a heavy metal frame

The GT NEO does not use the CNC-aluminium body mentioned in the older description. Its main structure is an injection-moulded carbon-fibre reinforced composite. The material lowers the weight while keeping enough stiffness for regular use with Direct Drive bases.

A lighter wheel allows the base to change direction with less rotating mass. Small details, rapid corrections and the beginning of a slide can feel more immediate, particularly on lower- and mid-torque wheelbases.

The material also gives the GT NEO a slightly different character from more expensive carbon-plate wheels. It is built as a practical racing tool rather than as a heavy display piece, which suits drivers who value low weight and a broad control layout.

Controls for changing the car during a race

Ten RGB buttons cover the main functions used during a session. Depending on the simulator, they can operate DRS, radio, pit limiter, ignition, headlights, wipers, camera changes or menu confirmation.

The four main rotary encoders are useful for adjustments that change during a stint. Brake balance, traction control, ABS, differential settings, engine maps and hybrid deployment can all be assigned according to the car.

Two additional thumb encoders sit closer to the grips. They are convenient for small corrections made while the car is under load because the driver does not need to move a hand towards the centre of the wheel.

Two seven-way switches

The two multi-position switches combine directional control, rotation and a push function. They work well for dashboard navigation, black-box menus, strategy pages and other functions that would otherwise require several separate buttons.

Using one switch for the car menu and the second for race information keeps the remaining buttons free for commands that need an immediate response.

RGB lighting with a practical purpose

The illuminated controls can be grouped by colour in SimPro Manager. Pit-lane functions may use one colour, car settings another and communication controls a third. Once the layout becomes familiar, the colours act as a quick reference rather than simple decoration.

A 15-LED strip sits across the upper section of the wheel. It can show engine speed and supported telemetry events, allowing the driver to recognise the shift point without watching a small numerical display elsewhere on the screen.

Brightness and behaviour can be adjusted to suit the cockpit. Lower settings are useful in a dark room, while stronger illumination remains visible during daylight or beneath bright monitor lighting.

Four Hall-effect paddle modules

The GT NEO includes four paddle modules behind the wheel. The upper pair handles gear changes, while the lower pair can be configured for clutch operation or other supported inputs.

Hall-effect sensors provide contactless activation. The paddles have a clear operating point and do not rely on traditional electrical contacts that rub against one another every time a gear is selected.

The lower paddles are useful for standing starts in Formula cars, prototypes and GT machinery. They may also be assigned to additional functions when a car does not require a hand-operated clutch.

Compatibility with Simagic wheelbases

Simagic GT NEO includes the QR50 Quick Release and works with wheelbases from the Alpha and Alpha EVO families:

The QR50 makes changing wheels straightforward. GT NEO can be removed when a round rim is needed for rally, drifting or classic cars, then fitted again for GT and prototype racing without changing the rest of the setup.

Before the first session, it is worth installing the current version of SimPro Manager and checking for wheel and wheelbase firmware updates. This helps avoid problems with button detection, lighting and communication.

Third-party wheelbases and MagLink

The GT NEO can also be used with selected wheelbases from other manufacturers through Simagic MagLink. The cable provides the required data connection instead of relying on the native Simagic wheelbase communication system.

A suitable wheel-side Quick Release or adapter is still required to mount the wheel mechanically. The exact arrangement depends on the shaft, bolt pattern and Quick Release used by the third-party base.

MagLink also opens access to SimHub integration. This allows supported lighting and telemetry effects to be configured outside the standard wireless Simagic connection.

Pedals for a GT NEO setup

The wheel can be used with pedals from any manufacturer. Simagic pedal sets are a convenient option for drivers who prefer to keep the main parts of the cockpit within the same ecosystem.

  • Simagic P500 – an accessible Load Cell set for a first move beyond basic pedals
  • Simagic P700 – adjustable Load Cell pedals with room for later upgrades
  • Simagic P1000 – a modular platform supporting hydraulic, haptic and other accessories
  • Simagic P2000 – hydraulic pedals intended for more advanced cockpits

Owners of the P1000 can add the Simagic P-HYS hydraulic brake module when a different brake feel is required without replacing the entire pedal set.

Additional controls for other types of car

The four rear paddles cover modern GT cars and prototypes, but a separate shifter can make the same cockpit more suitable for older touring cars or vehicles using a traditional gearbox.

  • Simagic DS-8X – an H-pattern and sequential shifter in one unit
  • Simagic Q1 – a sequential shifter with adjustable resistance and a gear display
  • Simagic Q1S – a compact sequential shifter with a clear mechanical action
  • Simagic TB-RS – a hydraulic handbrake for rally, rallycross and drifting

Where the GT NEO fits best

GT NEO is most at home in GT3, GT4, LMP, Hypercar and endurance racing. Its 300 mm size gives enough leverage for smooth steering while remaining compact enough for quick corrections through chicanes and fast direction changes.

The wheel is also suitable for drivers who need many controls but do not want an integrated screen. Telemetry can remain on the main monitor or a separate dashboard, leaving the wheel light and relatively simple.

It is less natural for rally and drifting, where a full round rim can rotate freely between the hands. GT NEO can still be used in those disciplines, but its shape is clearly aimed at circuit cars where the hands stay in a fixed position.

GT NEO in regular use

Simagic GT NEO combines a practical 300 mm shape with a low-weight composite structure and a control layout that covers most modern race cars. Ten RGB buttons, six encoders, two multi-position switches and four rear paddles leave little need for a keyboard during a session.

Its most straightforward pairing is with a Simagic Alpha or Alpha EVO wheelbase. MagLink extends the options to selected third-party bases, while the included QR50 makes the wheel easy to remove when another style of driving calls for a different rim.
