What is a bass shaker and what does it add to your simrig?
A bass shaker (also called a tactile transducer or haptic transducer) is a device that converts low-frequency audio signals into physical vibrations. Mounted to your cockpit frame, seat or pedal base, it transmits vibrations directly to the driver's body. With a bass shaker installed, you'll feel:
- engine work – RPM, gear changes and powertrain character,
- track surface – asphalt, concrete, curbs, grass and gravel,
- wheel lockups and loss of grip – vibrations instantly tell you you're losing control,
- collisions and barrier contact – physical feedback on damage,
- G-forces – when paired with the right software (SimHub, SimVibe).
This dramatically increases immersion and – importantly – can genuinely improve your lap times, because you gain an additional feedback channel that wheel-based Force Feedback alone cannot provide.
How to build a haptic system with Dayton Audio
A complete vibration system in a sim racing cockpit consists of three elements:
- Bass shaker (e.g. Dayton Audio BST-1) – at least one unit, ideally 2–4 placed at different points on the cockpit (seat, pedals, wheel base).

For most sim racers, the BST-1 is the best choice – it offers an optimal balance of power, price and vibration quality. On a tighter budget, BST-2 is a solid compromise. For maximum vibration output, go for BST-300EX or BCT-3.
Do Dayton Audio bass shakers work with every racing game?
Yes – bass shakers can be connected to any game. For sim racing titles with telemetry access (iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, Le Mans Ultimate), we recommend SimHub for precise vibration effects. In other games, shakers can use the audio signal from the subwoofer channel directly.
How many bass shakers do I need in my cockpit?
The minimum is 1 shaker mounted under the seat. The optimal configuration is 2 shakers (seat + pedals) or 4 shakers (seat left and right, pedals, steering column) – each handles a different type of effect, creating realistic, directional haptic feedback. Do I need a separate amplifier?

What's the difference between TT25 8 Ohm and 16 Ohm?
The difference is impedance – your choice depends on the amplifier you're using. The TT25 8 Ohm works well with standard audio amplifiers, while the TT25 16 Ohm is preferred when wiring two transducers in parallel (giving you an effective 8 Ohm load) or when required by your amplifier's specifications.
Is bass shaker installation complicated?
No. The BST-1 mounts with four screws to the cockpit frame or seat. You then connect it to the amplifier with speaker cable and configure the software. The whole process typically takes 30–60 minutes.
