Dayton Audio – American-engineered sound and vibration

Dayton Audio is a renowned U.S.-based manufacturer with decades of experience in designing high-performance audio components. The brand specializes in bass shakers, power amplifiers, speakers and audio accessories trusted by professional installers, home theater enthusiasts and sim racers around the world. Combining advanced engineering with accessible pricing, Dayton Audio has set the benchmark for premium audio for years.

Dayton Audio in sim racing – feedback you can feel

In the sim racing community, Dayton Audio is synonymous with realistic haptic feedback. The flagship BST-1 bass shaker is a tactile transducer that lets you physically feel every detail of the drive – from engine vibrations and road texture, to wheel lockups, G-forces and curb impacts. The compact BST-2 and the more powerful BST-300EX let you tailor vibration intensity to your cockpit size and personal preference. The miniature TT25 transducers are perfect for direct mounting in pedals or steering wheels. Paired with the right amplifier, you can build a complete vibration system tailored to your simrig.

Why choose Dayton Audio for sim racing?

For over two decades, Dayton Audio has been delivering audio components trusted by audiophiles, home theater installers and sound engineers. In sim racing, the brand found a natural home – the same transducers that reproduce the subtlest nuances of music translate perfectly into precise reproduction of vibrations generated by simulators. Dayton Audio combines American engineering, proven technology and competitive pricing – which is why the BST-1 and larger bass shaker models have become some of the most popular haptic solutions among sim racers worldwide.

Dayton Audio models available at SIMLINE.EU

Our offer covers the full range of Dayton Audio tactile transducers, matched to different needs and budgets:

  • Dayton Audio BST-1 – the flagship 50 W bass shaker, the most popular choice among sim racers. Ideal for mounting under the seat or on the cockpit frame.
  • Dayton Audio BST-2 – a compact, more affordable transducer, perfect for a first vibration system or as part of a multi-point setup.
  • Dayton Audio BST-300EX – a more powerful version of the flagship shaker with a larger diameter and higher output, for demanding users and heavy cockpits.
  • Dayton Audio BCT-3 – another full-size, high-power transducer, excellent for advanced multi-shaker haptic systems.
  • Dayton Audio TT25 (8 Ohm) and TT25 (16 Ohm) – miniature tactile transducers ideal for mounting inside pedals, steering wheels or button plates. Two impedance variants let you precisely match them to your amplifier.

What is a bass shaker and what does it add to your simrig?

A bass shaker (also called a tactile transducer or haptic transducer) is a device that converts low-frequency audio signals into physical vibrations. Mounted to your cockpit frame, seat or pedal base, it transmits vibrations directly to the driver's body. With a bass shaker installed, you'll feel:

  • engine work – RPM, gear changes and powertrain character,
  • track surface – asphalt, concrete, curbs, grass and gravel,
  • wheel lockups and loss of grip – vibrations instantly tell you you're losing control,
  • collisions and barrier contact – physical feedback on damage,
  • G-forces – when paired with the right software (SimHub, SimVibe).

This dramatically increases immersion and – importantly – can genuinely improve your lap times, because you gain an additional feedback channel that wheel-based Force Feedback alone cannot provide.

How to build a haptic system with Dayton Audio

A complete vibration system in a sim racing cockpit consists of three elements:

  1. Bass shaker (e.g. Dayton Audio BST-1) – at least one unit, ideally 2–4 placed at different points on the cockpit (seat, pedals, wheel base).
  2. Power amplifier – must deliver sufficient power and match the shaker's impedance. We recommend Class D amplifiers for their efficiency and compact size. Our offer includes amplifiers from NobSound Douk Audio, which pair perfectly with Dayton shakers.
  3. Software – most commonly SimHub with the ShakeIt module, which converts telemetry data from your game (iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, RaceRoom and others) into audio signals routed to the shakers.

Frequently asked questions about Dayton Audio

Which Dayton Audio bass shaker should I start with?

For most sim racers, the BST-1 is the best choice – it offers an optimal balance of power, price and vibration quality. On a tighter budget, BST-2 is a solid compromise. For maximum vibration output, go for BST-300EX or BCT-3.

Do Dayton Audio bass shakers work with every racing game?

Yes – bass shakers can be connected to any game. For sim racing titles with telemetry access (iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, Le Mans Ultimate), we recommend SimHub for precise vibration effects. In other games, shakers can use the audio signal from the subwoofer channel directly.

How many bass shakers do I need in my cockpit?

The minimum is 1 shaker mounted under the seat. The optimal configuration is 2 shakers (seat + pedals) or 4 shakers (seat left and right, pedals, steering column) – each handles a different type of effect, creating realistic, directional haptic feedback. For pedal-mounted vibrations, the miniature Dayton Audio TT25 works particularly well.

Do I need a separate amplifier?

Yes. Bass shakers are passive transducers and require an audio amplifier with appropriate power output. In our store you'll find a full range of motion and shaker accessories – including amplifiers matched to the BST-1 and other models – ensuring optimal performance.

What's the difference between TT25 8 Ohm and 16 Ohm?

The difference is impedance – your choice depends on the amplifier you're using. The TT25 8 Ohm works well with standard audio amplifiers, while the TT25 16 Ohm is preferred when wiring two transducers in parallel (giving you an effective 8 Ohm load) or when required by your amplifier's specifications.

Is bass shaker installation complicated?

No. The BST-1 mounts with four screws to the cockpit frame or seat. You then connect it to the amplifier with speaker cable and configure the software. The whole process typically takes 30–60 minutes.
