How to choose a sim racing steering wheel rim?

Choosing a rim comes down to three factors: shape, size and finish material. Here's a practical guide.

Shape – round or D-shape?

Sim racing steering wheels come in two fundamental shapes. A round rim is the classic choice for GT, rally and circuit cars. A D-shape rim (with the bottom segment cut flat) originates from F1 and GTE machinery — it provides more legroom when getting in and out of a rig and often makes paddle operation more comfortable when gripping the wheel low. Both shapes are available across the Simline, Simagic and Cube Controls ranges.

Size – how many millimetres?

Sim racing rims typically range from 295 to 350mm in diameter. Smaller rims (295–320mm) suit GT and formula cars — they provide faster steering response and need less rotation. Larger rims (330–350mm) are more comfortable in rally cars and GT vehicles with wide arches where greater steering angles are required. The Sportline Rally series is available in 330 and 350mm with a 65mm grip profile, closely matching real WRC cars.

Material – leather, suede or alcantara?

Natural leather – durable, easy to maintain and less absorbent of sweat. Popular for long-distance and endurance driving.
Suede – better grip even with sweaty hands, softer to the touch. Recommended for aggressive driving and intensive sessions.
Alcantara – a synthetic material combining suede-like feel with improved durability. Preferred in premium Simagic and Cube Controls steering wheels.

Compatibility – which hubs do these rims fit?

A bare rim has no electronics or base-mounting mechanism — it needs to be paired with a hub or button plate. Simagic P-series rims are natively compatible with the Simagic GT Pro Hub K and Neo X Hub. Simline rims fit wheels with the corresponding PCD bolt pattern.
