VNM Slipring – Questions and Answers
1. What is VNM Slipring?
VNM Slipring is an electromechanical rotary coupling for VNM Direct Drive wheelbases. It transfers power, control signals and data between the stationary side of the setup and the steering wheel turning on the drive shaft.
2. Which cable problem does the slip ring solve?
It removes the loose lead that would otherwise rotate with the wheel. The cable no longer needs to wrap around the shaft or tighten during larger steering movements. This is particularly useful in rallying, drifting and road cars with a wide steering range.
3. How does the wheel signal reach the PC?
The connection follows a clear route: steering wheel, VNM Quick Release, VNM Slipring and then the PC. The device uses the wheelbase’s front USB Type-C port and carries the connection towards the rear of the base.
4. Which VNM wheelbases work with Slipring?
It can be used across the VNM Direct Drive range: VNM Premier 13 Nm, VNM Elite 18 Nm, VNM Supreme 25 Nm and VNM Xtreme 32 Nm.
5. Which steering wheels give the most reliable connection?
The system works best with wheels that do not contain an integrated display or depend on a continuous high-speed USB data stream. Buttons, encoders, paddles and RPM LEDs are not the main concern. Display bandwidth is the more important point to check.
6. Can VNM Apex-R be connected through Slipring?
This pairing is part of the intended VNM setup. VNM Apex-R Wheel does not use a central telemetry screen, so it matches the recommended operating conditions. The connection also removes the loose cable turning beside the shaft.
7. Will a wheel with a VoCore display work correctly?
It may connect, but VNM warns that wheels using high-speed USB data can occasionally disconnect. Some VoCore displays fall into this group. A driver who relies on the wheel display throughout a race should take this limitation into account before ordering.
8. Can a third-party steering wheel use VNM Slipring?
Third-party wheels can be connected when fitted with VNM Quick Release Wheel Side and the matching Quick Release Wheel Side Extension Kit. Mechanical mounting, cable type and USB data requirements should all be checked before combining parts from different systems.
9. Is there a front-mount thickness limit?
Yes. A front-mount plate should not exceed 10 mm. If the plate is thicker, the installation needs a spacer or a slim USB Type-C connector that can fit correctly beside the mounted slip ring.
10. Does VNM Slipring remove every wheel cable?
It does not make the PC connection disappear. Instead, it manages the rotating section of the signal path and routes it through the wheelbase. The Slipring USB Type-C port is still used for the wheel’s direct connection to the PC.
