VNM SLIPRING - A slip ring in place of a cable turning with the wheel

VNM Slipring deals with the loose cable that normally turns and coils around the wheelbase shaft. The electromechanical slip ring carries power, control signals and data between the fixed and rotating sides of the VNM system. This lets the steering wheel complete repeated full rotations without pulling or twisting its lead. The benefit is easy to notice in rally driving, drifting and road-car simulations, where the wheel regularly travels through a large steering range. There is less cable near the driver’s hands, less strain on the connector and fewer things moving around the front of the cockpit.

The connection follows a straightforward route: steering wheel, VNM Quick Release, VNM Slipring and finally the PC. The unit uses the wheelbase’s front USB Type-C port and carries the connection towards the rear, keeping the cable away from the rotating shaft. The VNM Apex-R Wheel is a natural companion for this arrangement. It provides physical controls and RPM lighting without relying on a built-in screen. That matters because the slip ring is most dependable with steering wheels that do not require continuous high-speed display data.

This Direct Drive slip ring works best with steering wheels that do not contain a display. VNM notes that wheels using high-speed USB data, including some VoCore-based screens, may occasionally disconnect. A third-party wheel can be used when it is fitted with a VNM Quick Release Wheel Side and the matching Wheel Side Extension Kit. Front-mount thickness must also be checked before installation. The mounting plate should not exceed 10 mm; a thicker plate calls for a spacer or a slim USB-C connector. It does not make the PC connection disappear. Instead, it manages the rotating section of the signal path and routes it through the wheelbase. The Slipring USB Type-C port is still used for the wheel’s direct connection to the PC.
